Sabang is a tiny village on the west coast of Palawan Island, 75 km from Puerto Princesa. Sabang is a town squeezed between karst mountains on one side and the sea on the other. The town has one main street that ends at a pier from which boats depart to an underground river. Electricity in the village is rented for 5 hours a day! Most hotels and bungalows have their own generators that start working at 18.00 and work only 4-5 hours a day for the needs of arriving guests.

How to get Sabang

To get here on a motorcycle takes about 1.5 – 2 hours. By bus or jeepney much more. Early in the morning full of people and bags jeepney or local bus departs from the bus terminal in Puerto Princesa ➣ to Sabang one or two times a day. A trip to this form of local transport is going to be a long, hot and without any comfort. There also are more comfortable and fast minivans going to Sabang in approximate schedule: Puerto ➛ Sabang 7:30, 8:30, 10:30, 13:00, 15:30, 17:00. Sabang ➛ El Nido 7:30, 14:00, 16:30. From Sabang to El Nido and Port Barton

From Sabang to El Nido shared vans made three trips. The first van departs at 7.30AM, 2.00 PM second and third at 4.30 PM with price 900 pesos/pax. Vans depart from Polis station of Sabang, center of village. From Sabang to Port Barton shared transfer operate. For one-way ticket 650 pesos/pax. The distance is 144 km. The journey takes about 3.5 hours. What to see in Sabang

Underground River is 8 km long. which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage. The river got its name from the name of the city, near which it is located – Puerto Princesa Underground River “or the St. Paul National Park.” For here from around the world flock to the people to look at this miracle of nature. Excursion to Sabang from the capital of island Puerto Princesa to the “Underground River” is a trip for the whole day . After a 1.5 hour journey you arrive by mini bus to the pier in Sabang, than 20 minutes. by boat to the bay, a short walk through the strip of jungle where monkeys live and paddle boat to the cave. Hundred Caves Adventure 📍Bry. Tagabinet. Located 17 km. before Sabang pier. For those who love outdoor activities add to your bucket list when visiting Sabang. They offer normal and extreme caving activities. Normal Caving Adventrue (~40min duration). Extreme Caving Adventere (~1hrs duration). Open daily 8:00am to 4:30pm

Ugon Rock. Its a big rock formations with caves inside. You need climb up on the top. Optional you can fly down by zipline or descent by cave. Located 17 km from Sabang pier. Height of  the rock 110 meters. Price 450 pesos (2017). If your tour on a private van you can ask your driver stop over this point.

Beaches in Sabang. The village has two beaches which we would like to note. The first beach to the right of the pier, sheltered at most of the hotels and bungalows. When the sea waves here can not go into the water farther than the waist. In high season there is undercurrent. The beach has tables and bars selling drinks from the hotel. Zipline above the sea Sabang. After a mangrove forest you can go for a walk along the beach to the mountain, to the cable stretched over the sea (Zipline). Walk to here will take 20 minutes through the beautiful jungle along the sea. Price 750 pesos per person.

Jungle trail Sabang. Trekking through the jungle to the Underground river – walk is not easy. It is selected due to weather conditions, when the big waves in the sea and boats is canceled, or those who are fans of long walks in 7 km. through the jungle and mountains in both ways. In fact, the total distance through the jungle and beaches from the pier in Sabang to the river and back a little more than 8 km. round trip. Track takes 1.5 hours each way.

Lion Cave. The cave is located 8 km from the village of Sabang. It is a small cave complex of 4 floors (higher requires professional training). The ascent and descent through the cave will take about an hour, the road to the cave is about 30 minutes. A good option for a holiday in the bosom of wild nature and the ancient karst mountains of Sabang. To rich the caves you need hire a local guide

Mangrove forest paddle boat tour. One kilometer from the central pier Sabang is a mangrove forest. Here you can tour the river in a rowboat – “Mangrove paddle boat tour”. The price is 350 pesos per person. Duration about 40 minutes. From the boat you will see snakes, monkeys, birds and lizards living here in their natural habitat. You can go here while waiting Underground river boat transfer.

Daylighthole Cave Sabang. To rich the caves you need hire a guide in local tourism center. Be ready for jungle trekking with forcing the river, mud.

Tamilok. Sabang is one of the few places where you can try this delicacy. Tamilok is a shipworm, well, not exactly a worm, it is a type of bivalve mollusk that lives in a tree submerged in sea water. They are the sworn enemies of wooden docks, ships and piers. As a rule, “tamilok” is dipped in a mixture of citrus juice (calamansi) and chili peppers raw, and then eaten. Sabang Waterfalls. One of the most popular places to view in Sabang. Waterfall with clean and cool water is 1.5 km away. from the village, right on the beach. The road to the waterfall in a very rocky beach. Go to the left (30 min) from  the Sabang pier.

Whale Sharks tour. Unique excursion in the waters of the Honda Bay city of Puerto Princesa (80 km. from Sabang). You can personally meet with the largest of all living in the moment fish. From April to October on certain days you can swim with whale sharks in the wild.
