This river in the island of Palawan got its name from the city, near which is – Puerto Princesa, the city was founded in 1872 and named after the Spanish princess Eulalia de Bourbon. The river is 8 kilometers long, it is one os the world’s largest underground river, through it, you can sail on a boat at a distance of 4 km from the sea. However, river cruise is not allowed for 8 km due to security reasons, because in the depth of the cave, you can feel the lack of oxygen. Boats are allowed for 1.2 km away where you can admire the stalactites and stalagmites. At this distance from the sea, oxygen abound, periodically, in the dome of the cave there are holes through which natural light and air passes. The cave is one of the largest in the world. The height of the dome of the cave reaches 65 meters, width – up to 140 meters. National Park in 1999, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

✓ Self Tour. For those who wish to visit the underground river by yourself, there is an easy option. All who are going to the underground river must have a permit. It is necessary to go to Puerto Princesa City Coliseum in the morning, passport or other identity documents is required. Price of the permit is 250 pesos. When you get to Sabang, after you pay for the boat (~ 1000 pesos for 6 people.) from the pier in Sabang, get into the national park. In the office you need to show your passport, permit and payment of environmental charge.
If you are traveling alone, on the pier you need to find companions, who can sail with you, because the boat is 1000 pesos/6 pax. The second option – take the whole boat for 1000 pesos for two of you. In both versions the boat takes you to the Underground river, waiting for you and takes back. The third option is to get to the Underground river through the jungle. This option is for real adventure lovers, it takes about 1.5 hours each way, total is 8 km.

Unloading people from the boat in a nice cove near the river. Next, you need to register and go to the river through the jungle that is full of monkeys, which is fun.
Then, near the mouth of the river you will be given a life vests and helmets, then you go on a cruise through the subterranean.
Entrance to the cave
The tour will continue through the cave for 30 minutes. The presence of a powerful flashlight will be a big plus, since there is only one guide with one flashlight. A trip here is definitely worth the time spent and money. The road and the surrounding nature of Sabang is very scenic.
From Sabang, if you are traveling alone, minivan departs several times a day going to El Nido. The first trip leaves at 7:30 am, the second is at 2 pm, and 4.30 pm is the last. Price of 750 pesos. Travel time more than 5 hours.
